soft focus

a drop-in style studio class that is geared towards people who grew up dancing but miss being in-studio. beginning with the 45-minute, signature soft focus choreographed warm-up, followed by learning original choreography. the routine will vary from week-to-week and be in the style of either jazz or lyrical dance.

although this workshop is beginner friendly, if it’s your first time dancing you may find some things a bit challenging, although please don’t let this discourage you from coming! the atmosphere is incredibly inviting, and you will leave feeling both welcome and wanted.

soft(er) focus

the soft(er) focus workshops are 90-minute contemporary jazz/hip-hop classes (imagine your favourite throw-back music video) where we dance to high-energy, nostalgic, feel-good songs. known on the street as “the Britney class”, it's very beginner friendly & the focus is on the fun! the workshop’s choreography also shows up within the warm-up so that learning the routine feels easy & accessible.

while this workshop is geared to make dancing accessible to first-time dancers, if you have dance experience please don’t let that deter you from coming! the room is very high-energy, so you will leave feeling like you got your butt kicked and like you got your studio fix.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN-STUDIO:

each workshop begins with a forty-five minute warm-up designed to get your body ready to dance. first we’ll spend about twenty minutes time strengthening and toning your muscles in order to get them ready to safely stretch for the remaining twenty-five. this way, your body will be ready to move safely when we begin to learn the choreography!

in the second half of the class, we learn original choreography to contemporary music.

*please be aware that in the warm-up there is floor work. if your body is sensitive, I suggest bringing a mat to class with you, as there aren’t always ones to borrow in studio

DRESS CODE:

come ready to dance! wear comfortable clothes you can move in (no jeans!). if your hair is longer, please have it tied back. there will be no shoes in the studio, but feel free to wear socks (having a pair with you is suggested but not necessary), or go barefoot.

CLASS DETAILS:

the workshops are designed for adults and are taught in english. if you have a teenager who wants to participate (anyone aged 18 or younger), please send me a message before signing up.

the class will begin immediately at the scheduled time, however, if you arrive late it’s not a problem. just find a spot on the floor and join in!
