every soft focus workshop has been designed to be accessible + inclusive to all levels & all bodies
while all bodies & all levels are always welcome at every soft focus & soft(er) focus workshop, there is a difference between the two and how they're taught!
*
soft focus & one night only
the soft focus & one night only workshops are lyrical-contemporary classes designed for anyone who grew up dancing and looking to return to the studio. the warm-up & choreography is meant to be challenging, accessible, and gentle on the body
soft focus
within each class of this 4-week session, we give the same set of choreography some soft focus. this means that the routine we learn in the first class will show up again in the second, third, and fourth, giving us the opportunity to go deep and download the moves into our bodies. by the end of this workshop, you won’t have to worry about “what move comes next”, giving you the opportunity to really dance & focus on the storytelling + emoting.
each soft focus class begins with a 45 minute dance warm-up, followed by 45 minutes of learning original, contemporary choreography.
*
CLASS ONE: learn first half of the choreography
CLASS TWO: review last week’s choreography & add onto the routine
(class 2 is always the most challenging class within the session)
CLASS THREE: review the choreography and look at where to add texture and personality to the movements
CLASS FOUR: review and iron out the choreography, and dance!
*the soft focus workshop is no longer run like a drop-in class! you must purchase the full workshop in order to participate. no refunds for missed classes.
one night only
the one night only workshop is the 4-week soft focus workshop condensed into one evening. in this two-hour workshop, you'll be able to both learn and master a lyrical-contemporary routine in one evening and explore emotions through movement.
soft(er) focus
the soft(er) focus workshops are 90-minute contemporary jazz/hip-hop classes (imagine your favourite music video) where we dance to high-energy, nostalgic, feel-good songs from the 90's + 00's. it's very beginner friendly & the focus is on the fun! the workshop’s choreography also shows up within the warm-up so that learning the routine feels easy & accessible.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN-STUDIO:
each workshop begins with a forty-five minute warm-up designed to get your body ready to dance. first we’ll spend about twenty minutes time strengthening and toning your muscles in order to get them ready to safely stretch for the remaining twenty-five. this way, your body will be ready to move safely when we begin to learn the choreography!
in the second half of the class, we learn original choreography to contemporary music.
*please be aware that in the warm-up there is floor work. if your body is sensitive, I suggest bringing a mat to class with you, as there aren’t always ones to borrow in studio
DRESS CODE:
come ready to dance! wear comfortable clothes you can move in (no jeans!). if your hair is longer, please have it tied back. there will be no shoes in the studio, but feel free to wear socks (having a pair with you is suggested but not necessary), or go barefoot.
CLASS DETAILS:
the workshops are designed for adults and are taught in english. if you have a teenager who wants to participate (anyone aged 18 or younger), please send me a message before signing up.
the class will begin immediately at the scheduled time, however, if you arrive late it’s not a problem. just find a spot on the floor and join in!
